Every year in Southeastern Zimbabwe, members of an agriculture based community known as the Ndau gather for an arts festival to celebrate their indigenous culture and promote the preservation of the environment.

To the Ndau people, environmental protection is deeply entrenched within their spiritual beliefs. At the festival, they engage in dances to celebrate the spirits of the forest and the mermaid (who in their culture, controls their weather patterns) to promote food and water security.
.
The festival also includes a youth led program on green culture called the ‘Young Green Culture Guilds’, in which youth are trained in Ndau indigenous culture, environmental conservation, and creative art.
.
“If everyone takes responsibility, be it through awareness workshops and educational seminars in schools, tertiary institutions and/or in rural communities, I am confident that there will be a change of behavior and attitudes of the ordinary citizens in many countries who may behave irresponsibly because of lack of knowledge on climate change,” founder and chairman of the Ndau Festival of the Arts, Phillip Kusasa said.

The Earth’s climate is changing at a rate that has exceeded most scientific forecasts. Some families and communities have already started to suffer from disasters and the consequences of climate change, forced to leave their homes in search of a new beginning.

For the UN refugee agency UNHCR, the consequences of climate change are enormous. Scarce natural resources such as drinking water are likely to become even more limited. Many crops and some livestock are unlikely to survive in certain locations if conditions become too hot and dry, or too cold and wet. Food security, already a concern, will become even more challenging.
.
Climate change will fuel forced migration. We all need to prepare, in a coordinated way, and to protect the most vulnerable.

A one trillion tonne iceberg – one of the biggest ever recorded - has just calved away from the Larsen C Ice Shelf in Antarctica. The calving of this iceberg leaves the Larsen C Ice Shelf reduced in area by more than 12%, and the landscape of the Antarctic Peninsula changed forever.

The iceberg, which is likely to be named A68, weighs more than a trillion tonnes. Its volume is twice that of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes.
.
“The iceberg is one of the largest recorded and its future progress is difficult to predict. It may remain in one piece but is more likely to break into fragments. Some of the ice may remain in the area for decades, while parts of the iceberg may drift north into warmer waters,” said Professor Adrian Luckman of Swansea University.
.
Whilst this new iceberg will not immediately raise sea levels, if the shelf loses much more of its area, it could result in glaciers that flow off the land behind speeding up their passage towards the ocean.

Vietnamese weather presenter Thao Linh predicts that without implementation of the Paris Climate Change Agreement, summer temperatures in Hanoi, Vietnam could feel like present day Faisalabad, Pakistan, which has an average summer temperature of 41 degrees Celsius.

Due to the urban heat island effect, the temperature in the city could be 7 to 10 degrees C higher than surrounding suburban areas, so in the worst case scenario, the outside temperature in downtown Hanoi could reach 55 to 58 degrees C in 2100.
