We woke up thinking the engine was terminal after all of yesterday's issues. ⚙️
Simon got started on the car at 5 a.m. He found out the crank case pressure had subsided and it wasn’t forcing oil out of the engine gaskets and breathing as much as it had been last night.
He checked all the data on the oil pressure and ruled out that it could be a faulty gauge. Additionally, he fitted a new right-hand front damper and repaired the left-hand upright for the ski mount.
Then he had a cup of tea ☕️ and told us the good news — the car could run today! 🏎☀️
We did a 10k shakedown after which Simon removed the spark plugs and discovered the left-hand bank was running very lean (short of petrol) from the carburetor. He stripped the carburetor down, cleaned all the jets, and put us back together.
We went up the mountain in complete whiteout conditions. Renée couldn’t see anything but pure white. 🌫 It was incredibly low visibility, but the car was running great.
We made it all the way back down the mountain and the right ski broke again. The bolt sheared completely on the bottom arm with only 16 miles to go!
We have completed 240 miles and are set to repair the bolt again and hope to complete the 356 miles tomorrow!
Conditions are getting worse and winds over 50 mph are expected to come in overnight.
