Besides eating delicious food (as per my last two posts), yesterday was a very exhausting day both emotionally & physically. We attended the Brisbane Chicken Save Vigil- inspired by Toronto Pig Save- in the morning which was very upsetting to say the least... seeing 35 day old chickens (still just babies) crammed in small crates awaiting their death was horrifying. And the smell... JFC. 😣😷 we laid flowers in honour of the (approx) half a BILLION chickens killed in Australia alone every year, said a few words, shed many tears. Then we headed off to Australian Country Choice & did the same for the other animals who are slaughtered every day for human consumption (all across the road from an awesome family park and picnic area 😑) After lunch we protested the Mt. Gravatt rodeo & our presence there really opened some eyes and hearts. You may think that holding up a sign or handing out a leaflet does shit all, but raising awareness to the general public who don't even think twice about attending these events is how we plant seeds... the idea that animals are not ours to use or exploit for food, clothing, entertainment or any other means. It's showing that we aren't afraid to stand up for what's right even when the majority says it's okay and it's "culture". And that no matter how much the bullies try to intimidate us, we aren't going away. ✊ Here's hoping that 2016 is the last year of the Mt. Gravatt rodeo 🐂🐃 #rethinkrodeos
