An I.C.E. officer in New York was “relieved of his duties” according to the Department of Homeland Security, after a video of him shoving a woman at Manhattan’s immigration courthouse went viral on the internet. Videos show the officer slamming Monica Moreta-Galarza, an Ecuadorean woman, to the floor while she cries in a crowded hallway. The altercation came right after her husband was detained during an asylum hearing. She had to go to the hospital for a head injury and was later released. She told ProPublica, “Over [in Ecuador], they beat us there too. I didn’t think I’d come here to the United States and the same thing would happen to me.”
The DHS said today that the officer is under investigation, calling his actions unacceptable and not reflective of I.C.E.’s standards. The officer’s identity has not been revealed. When asked whether or not he is fired or just suspended, a spokeswoman for DHS said “that’s being determined pending investigation.”

He was willing to do that whole being filmed and with plenty of people around. And her kids were right there. These people are sick.
