Following their investment in Beyond Meat, Tyson Foods' CEO was interviewed by Fox News and said plant protein could be the future. New article on plantbasednews.org with all the before and after picture The mega fast-food chain #burgerking has been purchasing animal feed produced in soy plantations carved out by the burning of natural forests in Brazil and Bolivia, according to a new report by campaign group Mighty Earth. Mighty Earth's investigative report put the spotlight on Burger King's supply chain by using satellite mapping technology, visiting 28 soy plantations and interviewing local farmers across 3,000 km. Sloths, jaguars, giant anteaters and other species have all been affected by the disappearance of natural land. Local farmers carried out the deforestation to grow soybeans for Burger King’s suppliers Cargill and Bunge, the two agricultural traders operating in the area. Glenn Hurowitz, CEO of Mighty Earth, stated: “The connections are quite clear. Bunge and Cargill supply Burger King and other big meat sellers with grain. McDonald’s, Subway and KFC are not perfect but they’re doing a hell of a lot more to protect the forests. If Burger King does not respond immediately to people who want to know where their food comes from, then people should shop elsewhere.” Unfortunately, Mighty Earth's solution to "grow more soy and cattle on less land" give rise to factory farms, which are terrible for animal welfare, human health and the environment. Burger King was also implicated last year in a report by The Union of Concerned Scientists for failing to uphold adequate protections against sourcing its products from lands cleared for animal agriculture.

The perfect antidote to the Trump-mania: Environment minister Barbara Hendricks claims eating meat is damaging to the environment and has ordered only vegetarian food to be served at official government functions. The ban came to light in an email from a senior civil servant in the environment ministry, which was sent to department heads. The email states that the ministry has a duty to mitigate against the "negative effects of meat consumption" and must "set an example". It stated that animal agriculture accounts for a significant proportion of greenhouse gas emissions. Barbara Hendricks is a member of the Social Democrats, who have raced ahead of Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats party. Senior figures have pounced on this policy as evidence that the centre-left social democrats will meddle with citizens' private lives. Barbara Hendricks said: “We’re not tell anyone what they should eat. But we want to set a good example for climate protection, because vegetarian food is more climate-friendly than meat and fish.” "I'm not having this Veggie Day through the back door," Christian Schmidt, the food minister, replied.
Middle-class moms in the UK have spoken of their shock after supermarkets have re-labelled free-range eggs to say they are laid by chickens "housed in barns". The change in status is due to a bird flu outbreak that has forced farmers to keep poultry cooped up since the start of December.
