Track Tadpoles. 2005

I got into track racing through bike courieringering. Riding a bike with no brakes and one gear on the street made for an east transition to riding it on the boards, and the lightning quick reactions needed to survive on the road came in handy during races.
There was a lot of talk but little action on the local forums about riding the boards so I got together with Joe Schibeci of Brunswick CC and set a date for the first 'Track Tadpoles' session, and invited anyone who had never tried track to experience it in a friendly environment.

From those sessions most went on to race, some still race, and some know run the same 'come and try' style sessions for beginners.

If there is any point to this story it's that someone has to put their hand up to make things happen in life - we can all be that person.

  • parlayersballGreat post, man
  • total_dave@fyxo this post says that despite a lot of experience there is always an entry level in something. Always go for it.
  • mwaissmann@mikesalek I wonder if there's something like this in Calgary.
  • ricard0rdgHope to join something similar here in Sydney

  • fyxo@total_dave we all start with zero experience. Some people forget that.
  • total_dave@fyxo damn right. I've been commuting for ages and just got in touch with a local shop about joining group rides. A bit nervous about it but hey, it could help. Thanks for the post.
  • hengelstraatI am therefore, @fyxo Andy, extremely grateful you did. Because of rocking up to a come-and-try a few years back and subsequent sessions with Daryl, I now have the track bug and a Ken on the way!
  • caztheturtle@total_dave Mate, Melbourne? Come ride bikes with us.
