Minnesota Sunset

I am the victim
Of positive association
Or so I tell myself
But as I look into the sky
Burning with gradient intensity
My doubt in this
Mirrors my doubt
That even Photoshop
Could improve
Its multicolored splendor

Yet it is more than that
In the land of my father
He who taught me
By example
About the unobtainable
Luxury that is permanence
It is this light show
That echoes his lesson

Convinced that I
Will inhabit this
Tundra forever
I recall drives in the Bronx
Where this same man
Would undoubtedly revel
In the beauty of the setting sun

He imparted his amazement
But the teenager
In the passenger seat shrugged
My younger self gazed upward
Viewing the canvas of the heavens
Through the bridge of "too young"

He could never imagine
What a couple years could do
A life in the Bronx
An inevitable outcome

Thus with every showing
Of my own Northern Lights
I cherish the Gift of Now
With an eye towards
What the chaotic clay
Of the future has to provide

For with every Minnesota sunset
Follows a Minnesota sunrise

  • larry_legend14@mateofischer I'm no poet, but that was great. 👍
  • mateofischer@chicubs99 Thanks. I wrote it on my trip back since I have a poetry portfolio for my creative writing class due tomorrow morning. Or I guess I technically revised a poem I wrote earlier.
  • timmywade94Holy crap. That was outstanding!
  • mateofischer@timmywade94 Thanks. I just noticed that the line breaks are annoyingly frequent, though with Instagram.

  • mateofischer@nraven95 Thanks, but I honestly don't know how I would do it. I guess I can send her the share link.
