A scene from Robert Burns' wonderful epic poem, Tam o' Shanter is depicted as a wood carving (one of 4) by Thomas Hall Tweedie in 1860 - on display in the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway, Ayrshire, in the south west of Scotland. Here, the main character, Tam - on his grey mare, Meg is chased over the Brig o' Doon, pursued by a 'hellish legion' of witches. If you are having a small tipple on halloween or even if not, the poem's description of ghosts, ghouls, witches and warlocks will delight, turn your stomach and give you the shivers - all at the same time. It might be a struggle for some to get to grips with the language but it's a 'Must Read' classic and especially at this time of year. #visitscotland #scotland #ayrshire #ayr #alloway #robertburns #rabbieburns #tamoshanter #brigodoune #robertburnsbirthplacemuseum #witches #warlocks #halloween #frightnight #epicpoem #ghosts #ghouls #woodcarving
