Another 'classic view'. Loch Shiel at Glenfinnan - a few miles along the famous 'Road to the Isles', in Lochaber, Highlands of Scotland - west of Fort William. The monument here at the head of the loch, marks the place where Prince Charles Edward Stuart ('Bonnie Prince Charlie') rallied support and raised his standard at the start of the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Just west of this spot on the shores of Loch nam Uamh, he came ashore to start his campaign and also where he finally left Scotland from. Turning around 180 degrees from this viewpoint, one can see the graceful sweep of the railway viaduct and if you time it well, complete with a steam train chugging it's way across, en route to Mallaig - made famous in the Harry Potter films. #visitscotland #scotland #highlandsofscotland #scottishhighlands #lochaber #fortwilliam #glenfinnan #bonnieprincecharlie #jacobite #jacobites #lochshiel #roadtotheisles #autumn #naturalscotland #homecoming2014
