The Awakening Sculpture---is a 15-foot-high cast-aluminum sculpture of a sand-buried giant struggling to rise up. It's recycled public art. For 27 years it lived in Washington, DC before moving to the National Harbor in Fort Washington, Maryland. This is one of my favorite places because art brings a cross section of people---tourists, community folks, young and old of all cultures---together for fun. Adults and children "wake up" for a brief time and carelessly enjoy life.
