My grandmother's menorah. Probably inherited from my great-grandmother. After Kristallnacht, my grandparents fled to Hungary. My grandmother fled to the Hungarian countryside after my grandfather was deported to Buchenwald. She decided to bury all her valuables, including this menorah, to keep them safe. After the war ended, my grandmother dug this menorah and some jewelry back up. Eventually, she brought it to America, but by then it was in pieces, held together by wire and paperclips. The jewelry, tragically, was stolen from a safe deposit box years ago. But my mom just had the menorah fixed up in time for Hanukkah. I'm sharing it with you tonight so you can see it's beauty and know it's story. I'm so proud to be Jewish, so glad my family and this menorah survived. Happy Hanukkah, everyone!
