Free Range Chickens, Spring Wood Farm, Kinzers, PA. Photo by @peteressick on assignment for @natgeo . Photo is from the story "Our Fertilized World" in the May issue of National Geographic. The chicken coops are mobile so the chickens move in the pasture and distribute their manure as fertilizer. This saves on the cost to the farmer of fertilizer and reduces the chance of nitrogen runoff to the Chesapeake Bay. This picture was posted several months ago when there were a mere half million followers on @natgeo, so it should be new to the majority of you.
