burritosandsnowI hear many people lament the state of their lives. Perhaps you are one of these people, I know at times I have been. Sometimes we grow up, get older, and romanticize the days of our youth. We think "Oh if only I could go back to my high school days when things were easier" but it really isn't so. Yes the problems of youth were small in the grand scheme of things, but at the time they were still problems and problems will always exist in our lives. They were important enough to warrant our worries then, regardless of how trivial they seem now, but this is not the real reason I would never want to go back to such a time. For me it is because in youth there is many times an inability to appreciate, and that is something I am glad to have found as an adult. I hurt more when my friends hurt because I appreciate their friendship more. I am happier now with the people I love because I understand the value of their friendship. I can sit in silence on a chairlift and just look around me and be thankful that I am where I am. Small things, overlooked when I was young, that now carry the weight of a thousand suns on my concious. These are the reasons that life can become simultaneously difficult and extraordinary. As we leave this year and enter the next take a few minutes and try to appreciate all the amazing things you have in your life. Try not to be overwhelmed by some of the everyday pressures (especially of our society in particular) and just sit back, be thankful, and remember this... If the road seems harder maybe it is because you have learned to place more value in the consequences and that is not such a bad thing.
Goodbye 2012 and welcome 2013!
