Starting today, Americans can log in to the federal Affordable Care Act exchange to choose their health plans for next year — but millions are expected to face steep price hikes in 2026, with the most popular midlevel silver plan increasing 30%. Nov. 1 has been a key date in the government shutdown fight, with Democrats arguing that if enhanced federal healthcare subsidies aren’t renewed, the impact on consumers will be dramatic.
The 2025 PRRI AVS found that six in ten Americans (60%) say that the Trump administration’s cuts in federal funding of health care programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act have gone too far, compared with nearly three in ten who say this change seems about right (28%), and only 9% who say it has not gone far enough.
