When pictures of the Yunque colorway of the Bad Bunny x Adidas Gazelle first dropped I was obviously excited because they looked really good. But it wasn’t just about the shoe or how good it looked or limited it was. For me, it was something a little deeper. They Immediately pulled me back to earlier this year when my family and I spent time in Puerto Rico, enjoying the island, and exploring El Yunque. That trip was one special because it was the first family vacation we’ve had in almost 5 years.

We hiked through the rainforest, watched waterfalls spill down from the mountains, and the air out there was just so pure. My kids played and explored without a care in the world, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, I realized we were making core memories — the kind you know will stick with you forever.

Since then, my kids still ask when we’re going back, and my wife and I often look back at those pictures and videos just to relive the feeling of being there together. Puerto Rico gave us something special, and El Yunque in particular felt like a place where we were all fully present with each other, away from everything else.

That’s why this pair will always be more than a sneaker to me. It’s not about hype, resale, or how rare it is. It resonates deeper because every time I see it, I’m reminded of that trip, that time with my family, and the love we shared in a place that gave us so much joy.

That’s the real beauty of sneakers. Sometimes they hold more than design and materials. Sometimes they hold your story.

Full circle moment right here

Almost 3 years ago I stumbled across this wooden bead bracelet from @rastaclat and haven’t taken it off since. I wasn’t paid. I wasn’t gifted anything. I just loved what it represented, something simple turned meaningful.

There a lot to be grateful for, just pause, put your phone down, and think about it.

What are you grateful for in sneaker and life?

I may not be like others when it comes to sneakers, but goodness I love a good story on a pair. And that story does not always need to be explained in the rollout of the shoe. Some stories live in the subtle choices, the small decisions, the details in how the shoe was built. And when you notice those things, it makes the whole pair feel more meaningful, at least to me.

These Bad Bunny Campus are one of those shoes. The double tongue is more than a style choice, it speaks to the bilingual world he moves in and how he blends two cultures every day. And tucked inside the tongue is that stitched shape of the Puerto Rican flag. Subtle but intentional. (See Slide 4)

Details like that remind me why I care about sneakers the way I do, and specifically why I really enjoy the projects that Bad Bunny and Adidas do together.

Leading up to holiday breaks is always a little hectic in the classroom. The rhythm gets thrown off, the attention spans get shorter, but you adjust on the fly. Even with all that, we’ve done some cool stuff this week. My design students just started their animation projects, and my manufacturing students have been working with resin and composites. Overall, it’s been a good week.
