Another project that I had the opportunity to work on recently was the Air Max Fire. The mission was simple: classic 2000’s Air Max energy with modern method-of-make at $100………..on a VERY short timeline. Fortunately I had an absolute superstar team to work with that were instrumental in bringing my insane ramblings and ideas about Air Max culture to life. I’ve always felt that late 90’s/early 00’s Air Max had a particular stance, shape, proportion and overall attitude that set It apart from the rest of the product in the marketplace. It struck beautiful balance between looking tough, yet streamlined line a spaceship; busy but never superfluous.
I wanted to make sure we had the classic athletic 50/50 color and material block that was so prevalent on so many of those iconic Air Max shoes from the 2000’s, but then we wanted to introduce some modernity through new material processes on the upper and a generative design language on the sidewall of the tooling. Wanted to say a massive thanks to old mate @mattthorntondesign for being an amazing collaborative partner and 3D whiz, @liz_mortati for crushing It on the color front, @thecornface for some serious heavy lifting on materials, @speedracercase for trusting me and my ramblings, @mauriceregnautartwork for his constant wisdom and engineering expertise, and old mate @_cris.gonzalez_ for being a sensational design partner throughout the entire process.
