Our co-founders Alaa and Karim, meet for the first time since founding the Gaza Sunbirds in 2020 ✊🏽❤️

After evacuating Gaza to compete in the Paralympics of this year, our team met Karim in person for the first time 4 days ago. He joined them in Cairo, where they will be training and preparing for the upcoming qualifying races in Belgium and Italy.

Karim and the team have been in communication every single day for the past 4 years. In other words, we’ve been inseparable from the inception of our project until this very moment, which has finally culminated in us seeing each other in person. This is a huge milestone for us, and is a pushback against the effort to physically disconnect us from each other, whether through the ongoing genocide or the decades old siege on Gaza.

The majority of our team members remain on the ground in Gaza, holding the fort down, training, and continuing to carry out aid missions in support of our community. It is our hope that we all reunite one day, in a context with no limitations and restrictions.

The occupation’s blockade isn't an accident.

This keeps minds and bodies from growing. Now that some aid trucks are entering again, we’ve been able to bring back some essentials to thousand of kids.

Bringing fresh fruit into emergency schools hasn’t just fed them, it’s helped them feel motivated, show up, and actually feel ready to learn. ✨🍌

Our team has been distributing food in emergency schools. Education is a privilege that has been stolen from our children

More than 97% of G•za’s schools have been damaged or destroyed since October 2023. Temporary learning spaces have been built in tents and shelters. We’re here to make sure students the support to keep going.

Our team dusted off our Sunbirds truck to bring hot food to school 🌽💛

The students’ smiles are our reason to be thankful today. We have a long way to go, there still isn't enough food entering the Strip. And the students deserve better than makeshift emergency tent schools.

But we hope moments like this encourage them to keep learning and remember that people near and far are standing with them.

There is no joy like sharing a slice of life with a friend 🍊 We distributed these fruits directly to schools to help the kids focus through their school day.

Thanks to you, we were able to distribute over 1000 kg of fruit to hundreds of happy students.

Did you know we used to love the rain?

We were like you, watching movies and enjoying cozy time with family. Now rain scares us. It often means our tents are destroyed by winds and flooding.

We put on a brave face and try to make the best of all situations 🌧️
