🍁 BOTANY BITES: FALL FOLIAGE 🍁 with @blundstoneusa

Sooooo - how’s LEAF PEEPING going for you this autumn? 👀 You may have noticed that the trees aren’t poppin’ off like they did last year - at least here in New England! There are many factors as to why this could be happening and I’m here to break it down for ya!

So - let’s dissect my art! 📷

🍁EPISODE RECAP🍁

🍁 Each autumn, chlorophyll slows production to a halt allowing the green to fade away letting the carotenoids and anthocyinins to show off!! which gives the leaves its yellow, orange, reds tones (and other colors) we love to see each October!

🍁 Anthocyanins (blue to red) and carotenoids (yellow to orange) are two groups of plant pigments with different chemical structures.

🍁 For a more colorful autumn - A warm, wet spring, favorable summer, and warm sunny fall days with cold nights should produce the most perfect, colorful fall foliage!

🍁 However, a cold spring, extremely wet summer, and warm rainy days and warm nights in the autumn can cause the leaves to be more muted and become stressed!

NOTE: Any weather concoction can cause a colorful or more muted fall foliage season but we are in a changing climate so keep that in mind too!

Head out on a nature walk this season in your local area (with your @blundstoneusa - of course!) and take a closer look at the leaves! Do you notice any changes? Fungi? Crispy textures?

Get up close and personal with our tree friends that are needing some extra love this year!

Hope you learned something new on this episode of Botany Bites!
