We all need heroes.

Mine, are the Do-ers, the Lovers, the Inspirers; the ones who “Act” — not for money or fame or acknowledgment, but to heed the deep fire within them forcing them forward—to do better for the natural world most take for granted. They Do - because they know nothing else. For these people, standing-by to wait for others to create change for nature, and the voiceless, is not an option.

Robyn rises at 5:01 am every, single morning of the summer. She bolts downstairs, akin to the Energizer Bunny-checks emails, walks a few dogs then switches gears and spends hours outside, rain or shine, meticulously cleaning, counting and organizing her many containers of rescued monarch butterfly eggs and caterpillars. Some days Robyn has an intern, some days not. When the sanitizing is done, Paul (the partner she could do none of this without) dodges NY traffic while Robyn searches the green strips along NY highways systems. She plucks soon to be mowed milkweed, finds the next set of eggs needing rescue—and these days she also ropes off areas here and there and puts up a sign or two. All this takes her to noon—when at some point she eats, and runs a full time business. She runs to appointments, fields calls, organizes staff—none of whom or which have to do with butterflies. If this all weren’t enough every few minutes she stops to field dm’s from Instagram, uploads videos and pictures to educate thousands on social media about butterflies, birds, and a plant based life. Most importantly, she makes sure we stop for bagels along the way, and when is all done for the day, she makes vegan dinner. She smiles and laughs through it all, and starts it all over again in the am, until the last Monarch butterfly, at the end of the summer, is tagged and on its way to Mexico. Recently, Robyn made headway with the NYC Dept of Transportation , to help save milkweed, rather than mow it. HEROES. This is who they are.

People like Robyn and Paul make the world a better place. The Monarchs and I thank you BOTH for what you do.
