Narges Mohammadi – awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize – smuggled these words out of the notorious Evin prison in Tehran, Iran.

Unfairly imprisoned and subject to torture, Mohammadi opposes the Iranian regime's systematic use of torture and sexualised violence against political prisoners.

When Mohammadi became aware of the political protests in Iran related to Mahsa Jina Ahimi's killing, Mohammadi assumed leadership.

From prison, she expressed support for the demonstrators and organised solidarity actions among her fellow inmates. The prison authorities responded by imposing even stricter conditions. Mohammadi was prohibited from receiving calls and visitors.

Her smuggled out article was published by the @nytimes on the one-year anniversary of Mahsa Jina Amini’s killing.

From captivity, Mohammadi has helped to ensure that the protests have not ebbed out.

نرگس محمدی امروز، ۱۸ دسامبر ۲۰۲۴، در مصاحبه‌ای با کریستین امانپور از شبکه CNN گفت:

«چه در داخل اوین باشم یا خارج از اوین، هدفم بسیار روشن است و تا زمانی که به دموکراسی دست نیابیم، متوقف نخواهیم شد. ما آزادی می‌خواهیم و برابری می‌خواهیم. پس، هر طرف دیوار که باشم، مبارزه‌ام را ادامه خواهم داد.»

او در مورد گفتگوی تلفنی با فرزندانش گفت:
«متحیر شدم. در واقع کمی شوکه شدم. احساس کردم که واقعاً بزرگ شده‌اند و احساس کردم که یک دوره طولانی از بودن با آنها را از دست داده‌ام»،

«در بسیاری از مواقع که در زندان بودم، چالش مادر بودن در برابر فعال حقوق بشر بودن را احساس کردم»، او افزود و اشاره کرد که بارها به زمانی که نتواسته بود به عنوان یک مادر در کنار دوقلوهای ۱۸ ساله‌اش باشد، فکر کرده است. «نمی‌دانم آیا آنها مرا خواهند بخشید یا نه. البته وقتی با آنها صحبت کردم، گفتند: ‘آه، ما به تو افتخار می‌کنیم و از تو حمایت می‌کنیم.’ اما حقیقت این است که احساس می‌کنم این بچه‌ها خیلی چیزها را در دل نگه داشته‌اند و سختی‌های زیادی را تحمل کرده‌اند. و شاید کلمات نتوانند این درد و غم را بیان یا جبران کنند.»

نرگس محمدی به مواردی اشاره کرد که خود او «به شدت توسط ماموران زندان کتک خورده بود» و سپس از درمان پزشکی خودداری شده بود. «آنها به سینه من ضربه زدند، در حالی که قرار بود برای آنژیوگرافی بروم و شریان‌هایم مسدود شده بود»، او از یکی از حوادث گفت.

او در مورد هم بندی هایش گفت:
«آنها زندان را به ضد زندان تبدیل کرده‌اند. دیوارهای زندان اوین به دلیل شعارهای این زنان ترک برداشته است. من اینطور احساس می‌کنم – که این دیوارها شکسته شده‌اند.»

«من از این مراحل عبور کرده‌ام، از تمام این موقعیت ها، و هر مجازاتی که بر من تحمیل کنند، تفاوتی ندارد چون من باورهایم را دارم»، او گفت. «من محکم ایستاده‌ام و علیه حکم اعدام شعار می‌دهم. من مخالف آپارتاید جنسیتی هستم، مخالف سیاست‌های جمهوری اسلامی ایران هستم.»

«من یک صلح‌طلب هستم. من زنی هستم که می‌خواهیم حقوق زنان را در ایران محقق کنیم. پس فکر می‌کنم دقیقاً همین‌جا جایی است که باید باشم.»

On 8 December 2024, Narges Mohammadi met with the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the first time since the announcement of her Nobel Peace Prize on 6 October 2023.

Currently out of prison on a 21-day sentence suspension (not a medical furlough), Narges Mohammadi is required to serve the remaining days upon her return to prison.

The meeting, held in a private setting, included all members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee 2024: Jørgen Watne Frydnes (Chair), Asle Toje (Vice Chair), Anne Enger, Kristin Clemet, Gry Larsen, and Olav Njølstad (Secretary and Professor).

The conversation has been recorded with great difficulty due to Iran’s poor internet infrastructure and widespread filtering of most applications. The low quality of Narges Mohammadi’s footage is a direct consequence of these challenges.

Narges Mohammadi is forced to go back to prison soon.

در تاریخ ۱۸ آذر ۱۴۰۳، نرگس محمدی برای نخستین بار با کمیته نروژی نوبل دیدار کرد.

نرگس محمدی که در حال حاضر با تعلیق ۲۱ روزه حکم حبس (و نه مرخصی پزشکی) از زندان خارج شده است، ملزم به گذراندن باقی‌مانده دوران محکومیت خود پس از بازگشت به زندان است. او پس از بیش از یک سال از دریافت جایزه نوبل صلح، سرانجام موفق شد به‌صورت آنلاین با اعضای کمیته نروژی نوبل دیدار کند.

این دیدار در فضایی خصوصی برگزار شد و تمامی اعضای کمیته نروژی نوبل ۲۰۲۴ شامل یورگن واتنه فریدنس (رئیس)، اسله تویه (نایب‌رئیس)، آنه انگر، کریستین کلیمت، گری لارسن و اولاو نیولستاد (دبیر و استاد) در آن حضور داشتند.

ارتباط با نرگس محمدی برای این جلسه به سختی برقرار شد. سرعت بسیار پایین اینترنت در ایران، فیلتر بودن اکثر اپلیکیشن‌ها و اجبار به استفاده از وی‌پی‌ان، تأثیر مستقیمی بر کیفیت پایین فیلم‌های نرگس محمدی گذاشته است.

نرگس محمدی در گفتگو با بلومبرگ: «اعدام ابزار سرکوب است»

نرگس محمدی، مدافع حقوق بشر و برندهٔ جایزه نوبل صلح ۲۰۲۳، در گفت‌وگویی که شب گذشته در تلویزیون بلومبرگ منتشر شد، تأکید کرد که جمهوری اسلامی از مجازات اعدام به‌عنوان ابزاری سیستماتیک برای سرکوب مردم استفاده می‌کند.

محمدی با اشاره به تشدید سرکوب ها در ایران، گفت که حکومت در بحبوحهٔ انزوای منطقه‌ای و سقوط اقتصادی، خشونت علیه شهروندان را بیش از گذشته افزایش داده است. او افزود که فعالان، معلمان و دانشگاهیان به شکلی بی‌سابقه هدف قرار گرفته‌اند و موج بازداشت‌های گسترده اکنون به لایه‌هایی از جامعه رسیده که پیش‌تر این‌چنین مستقیم مورد هجمه نبودند.

او هشدار داد:
«سرکوب شدیدتر شده است. موج اعدام‌ها نشان‌دهندهٔ میزان خشونت و بی‌رحمی‌ای است که جمهوری اسلامی علیه مردم ایران برپا کرده است. بازداشت‌ها بسیار فراگیرتر شده و اکنون به بخش‌هایی از جامعه رسیده است که هرچند همیشه در معرض تهدید بودند، اما تا این حد مستقیم هدف قرار نگرفته بودند.»

محمدی تأکید کرد که خشونت حاکمیت علیه مردم «عریان و انکارناپذیر» شده و خشم عمومی در کشور عمیق‌تر از همیشه است.

Iranian Government Must Drop All Charges Against Narges Mohammadi and Allow Her to See Her Children

Mohammadi has not seen her twin children since 2015, when they were forced to leave Iran at the age of 8, having one parent imprisoned and the other living in exile since 2012.

As they prepare to mark their 19th birthday on 27 November, she still is deprived of celebrating with her children once more due to years of imprisonment and restrictions. On 22 November, lawyers confirmed after a meeting with authorities that she cannot obtain any travel document and is banned from leaving the country by two separate judicial bodies.

The Free Narges Coalition Steering Committee states:

“Iranian authorities must guarantee Narges Mohammadi’s safety, drop all charges against her, return her passport so she can travel freely and embrace her children after years of separation, and immediately cease all forms of harassment, both direct and indirect. We call on the Iranian government to immediately drop all charges against Narges Mohammadi and to ensure her safety and freedom without delay.”
