CAN WE PLEASE DO AWAY WITH THE “STILL” ?!

A “still” is like a “but.” One ruins a compliment, the other ruins an apology.

I know it’s kindly meant. But those of you who use the term STILL when commenting on looks or a persons abilities, are actually perpetuating ageism.

The word “still” in this connotes your surprise at someone “still” being what your assumption of them was. Which in this case is what? No longer beautiful? No longer viable? No longer capable?

How many times do you hear “you’re still smart. You’re still talented. You’re still kind.”
Not often, right?

You only use the word “still” when you’re referring to something you believe this person has lost. “You can still run. You can still play the piano.” Never “You can still read. You are still smart.”

You use it in negative references, such as: “you’re still an asshole, you still can’t cook, you still can’t do - or be - or look…“

So why is it considered a compliment to say “you still look great?”

Next time you’re tempted to insert a “still” - take a moment. And don’t.

This shows that you can’t accept the reality that you can’t be the hottest chick forever. Everyone ages and loses attractiveness. If you are receiving compliments at this old age that means you are still much better looking than the other women of your age. But that’s not good enough for you because your ego tells you “so am I not the fairest of them all?” 😏 You are not advocating for anyone but your own ego. You might be thinking that you are advocating for all women but what you are really doing is just fighting with your inability to accept that your golden days are over. You are not going to be put on a pedestal anymore, the younger models are being worshipped right now and guess what? They will face this same fate when they age. Its how life is. Just accept that and move on please. You are finally experiencing life the way all unattractive and ugly people have lived their WHOLE lives. You still have it better cz you still win magazine covers and make money out of that. Unattractive and ugly people live their whole lives with insults about their looks, have to work hard to make a living, have to prove their economic value by studying things and becoming qualified and proving to employers that they can generate income from their knowledge and skills; its hard work trust me. Be grateful for the genetic lottery you have won and try to be a bit mature about vapid things like physical beauty. And a small but obvious lesson from us uglies; not being attractive is not the end of the world! You don’t die if you don’t get compliments for your looks! Ugly people live happily too. So if we can live life happily without complaining about how we are not considered pretty, I’m pretty sure you can be way happier because even at this age with wrinkled skin you still get compliments. So be happy with that.
