another example of heteronormativity is saying little boys are going to be “heartbreakers” when they grow up and little girls need to be “locked up” when they turn 16

I'm a queer identifying cis-woman who was in an 11 year relationship with another woman. I'm now seeing a man and bothered by the assumption that people have in thinking I'm "going back to straight".

I always have assumed queer default. For my own mental health. But I do know its a ciscentric heterocentric world even though SECRETLY/FANTASY people are more fluid. tbh. Sigh.

When the scales tip and you gain power in your relationship, the temptation may be to use that power to make big asks of your partner or double down on a guilt trip.

What actually builds intimacy and happiness, though, is permission to be human...so what would it feel like to actually move closer during an apology rather than doubling down?

The need for reassurance is human! There’s nothing to be ashamed of for seeking connection.

I wrote this guide to help you flesh out if the way and amount you’re seeking reassurance are serving you, and to help look for signs that more help might be needed.

If you’ve examined your own role in an insecure dynamic and continue to feel that your partner(s) can’t show up in a mutually responsive way, it’s reasonable to reassess the relationship.

Consider looping in a relationship (or individual) therapist to help you move through these questions, particularly if you think you may have patterns consistent with relationship OCD.

I’ve had many queer, partnered clients who share that having s*x often feels like taking turns - and not always in a way that feels exciting.

Sometimes it feels good to just focus on your partner’s body, or to relax into pleasure as the receiver. But if you’re looking to reimagine this dynamic, I’ve got you covered!

It’s okay to want to move out of a giving-receiving dynamic sometimes. Perhaps you’re looking for more face-to-face options, or ways to touch one another simultaneously.

What does this bring up for you? How have you and your partner(s) navigated this dynamic?

Some disclaimers:
- These techniques focus specifically on mutual touch. These are not the only ways to give and receive pleasure during s*xual play. There’s other sensual, emotional, mental and spiritual ways to feel pleasurable during s*x beyond touch.
- People can experience pleasure while giving to their partner without also being in a receiving position.
