Being the stay at home parent got me use to being the go to for everything. What I never saw coming was that it also got my children and my wife use to it as well. Instead of asking mom to get a glass of water, a snack or help with wiping their butts. My children always asked me even with my wife available. Now that wasn't a problem at first b/c I didn't feel my wife should just jump in right after work, I wanted her to rest first. Then even on her days off I was still the go to for everything and she seemed to be able to get a break that I wasn't able to have. That started to bother me. I started then watching my wife and comparing what I was doing vs. what she was doing. This only made my resentment worst. Eventually I was at my limit and we had an argument. Here's some tips for stay at home parent to help with the feelings a Resentment. 1. Set a schedule with your partner that allows you to get some kind of free time. Being in the house with the kids all day everyday isn't healthy and you need some kind of time to just be. Your partner will understand but you have to ask for it. 1 hour everyday to just do nothing is a must. 2. Ask for help. We are so use to doing everything that we never ask for help and then are upset when we don't get it. Your partner doesn't read minds and won't know you need a break or help if you don't communicate that. Also sometimes you just have to direct your children to ask your partner instead of you. A simple "go ask your dad" or "see if mommy can do that for you" will help alot. 3. STOP DOING SO MUCH! Less is more at times and most stay at home parent give themselves a crazy amount of things to accomplish that they get overwhelmed with keeping that standard up. You have kids and it's okay for your house to look like you do sometimes. Now that don't mean leave your house a mess but Stop Cleaning up the kids room every time it's dirty. Lol 4. (This is for the working parent) BEING THE STAY AT HOME PARENT IS A JOB TOO. Understand that we need a break too and we can't even get one until you guys come home. So after you get your rest and unwind get in the game and give us a break. A simple "hey I got this" really means a lot.
