So what does a sustainable wardrobe look like to me? It looks like a mixture of things. It’s not buying all the sustainable brands and replacing everything you have with sustainable brands. It’s wearing what you already have and when you need something new going with a more ethical and sustainable option or second hand. So let’s go through this bit by bit.

There’s a few fast fashion garments on that rail. There’s a denim jacket that is five years old and has had hundreds of wears and two solid dresses which are ALMOST TEN YEARS OLD (they’re a bit small now but I can still fit them so I’ll wear them until they don’t fit).

There’s two second hand acquired pieces from a brand that used to be out of my price range. I could only afford them second hand at the time but that makes them all the more special to me.

There’s an open grey jersey cardigan from one of the first ethical brands I started supporting and that’s had about 50 solid wears since I purchased it a few years ago.

There’s a cotton cardigan from an ethical maker I bought in the sales (still pricey but within my price range as a sample).

On my body I’m wearing a mint green @loudbodies dress and my @loragene_ cardigan with a necklace from @onewemadeearlier.

A sustainable wardrobe doesn’t have to be perfect but it should involve working with what you already have and being thoughtful about the new things you acquire and wear they come from. But mostly it involves wearing your clothes a good long time. If you’re sure you’re not gonna wear it 100 times it shouldn’t come into your closet. I also now focus on buying pieces that I know will fit even if my body grows a little bit which is bound to happen.

She’s standing next to a clothing rack full of clothes she’s thoughtfully acquired and things which have been in her wardrobe for a long time. Progress over perfection but having clothing you truly love and admire keeps you from running out to consume more things just because. The @loudbodies dress was #gifted but I still buy the majority of the clothes I wear.]
