This morning, Chief Human Resources Officer of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston reached out to all staff, via email, letting them know of vaccine availability for Museum STAFF that qualify under Texas’ distribution protocol for Phase 1. Gary Tinterow, director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston mistakenly “replied all” when he asked Larry to reserve a vaccine for Christopher, his husband. Within minutes the message was recalled, but not before the screenshots below were taken. Christopher is an under 65 year old white male who has no affiliation with the Museum. Gary is prioritizing his safety over the hundreds of high risk frontline staff, including many older people of color - especially in the security department. When this staff is finally given some ray of light after working for almost a year in fear - without disaster pay - in a pandemic, floods, and snow storms, this is truly a disgusting show of Gary’s true colors. #changethemuseum @MFAHouston — SHARE YOUR STORY: link in bio. @changethemuseum Pressuring US museums to move beyond lip service proclamations by amplifying tales of unchecked racism.
