We made these graphics, which talk about why and how Japanese people should care about police brutality, because there are not many existing resources in Japanese. I know that anti-blackness and police brutality feel like an American issue right now to many people across the world, but it’s really a global issue. In Japan, people love parts of black culture like the music, fashion, and art, but speak disappointingly little about the violence and racism against the black community. I think it’s the same in many countries, including America, but it feels wrong to conveniently pick and choose the parts of a culture that you want to pay attention to. Besides, we should just fundamentally care about others because we are all fucking human, but you should know that by now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And btw, if you can, the best way to care right now as a non-black person is with your wallet. @ko_archives and @orangejuicecity are currently coming up with a way to make donating easier for Japanese people (most donation sites are in English). If you have an idea or want to collaborate, DM us.⠀

There’s obviously so much more I wanted to say here, but it’s a huge topic to unpack. Thank you to @sumieann for designing these visuals, and @morning_kid_official and @kiooochan for helping with the text. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lastly, turning off comments because I’m not interested in arguing with people about whether black lives matter (they absolutely do) or receiving pats on the back for posting content to an app that is run by a rich white dude. But if you know someone this may be useful to, please share. And if you haven’t donated yet, please do.
