Every Ramadan I make a visit of solidarity somewhere around the world. This year, I travelled to Christchurch, New Zealand to be with the Muslim community after the horrific terrorist attacks there in March. No words can relieve the sorrow and pain they have suffered but I wanted to come in person to show my love, support and admiration. Hatred is on the rise. Communities all over the world are feeling vulnerable and insecure. Hate speech is spreading like wildfire on social media. We must extinguish it. Everyone has a role to play. We need to use platforms like @Instagram to increase understanding and tolerance — and to call out hatred whenever we see it. 📸: Mark Garten / UN Photo
