The Queensland state government has voted to legalize abortion and scrap a law made 119 years ago that made abortion illegal in the Australian state. After two days of emotional parliamentary debate and decades of campaigning by reproductive rights campaigners, 50 MPs voted for the legislation and 41 MPs voted against it on Wednesday night. A termination was only lawful if to “prevent serious danger to the woman’s physical or mental health”, but now abortion will be available up to 22 weeks gestation, after which the patient would require two separate doctors to approve the procedure. The legislation, which goes into effect later this year, also introduces 490-feet safe-access zones around clinics to protect patients from harassment and intimidation by protestors 👩🇦🇺 (📷: Pro Choice Qld / Facebook) - #abortion #abortionrights #pregnancy #women #woman #girl #girls #prochoice #prolife #reproductiverights #believewomen #womensrights #mybodymychoice #equalrights #equality #healthcare #feminism #itsnot1899 #queensland #qld #qldpol #australia #australian #aussie
