This Transgender Day of Remembrance Chicago honors and remembers the trans people whose beautiful lives were taken from us too soon, and we reaffirm our commitment to fight for the protections of our proud and vibrant transgender community today and every day.

Today is Trans Day of Remembrance, and I had the honor of lifting up and honoring all of the resplendent achievements of trans people all throughout history at a press conference earlier this morning on the corner that is named in memory of our sister, Elise Malary. Today reminds us that her life, and every trans life MATTERS, and that showing up, taking up space, and fighting for trans rights is more necessary than ever before.

I am so proud to be the first LGBTQ+ senator to represent the 7th District, and I am proud to have introduced and passed legislation to make Illinois a sanctuary state for trans individuals. I will continue to walk through the fire and fight for our trans community every day, and thank our community for creating spaces where we can celebrate one another.
