- ordnancesurvey@isloyd we're the mapping agency for Great Britain, which includes the Shetlands. The traditional and strictly geographic use of Great Britain is the mainland, but the political, and common use of Great Britain includes the majority of the associated smaller islands too. The exceptions being the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands which are neither part of Great Britain nor the United Kingdom, but operate as Crown Dependencies. Both Ireland and Northern Ireland have their own mapping agencies though, we don't survey or map there.
- leona.gear@ordnancesurvey the people of Shetland (and Orkney) would never say the Shetlands (or the orkneys). The Shetland isles or island or just Shetland please. I am from Foula and I'm hoping granny has kept me a map.
