• unmigrationGabriel was born in the suburbs of Waterloo, an impoverished city in the west of Sierra Leone. In 2016, he traveled to Mauritania with a member of his family to become an Imam. A few months after his arrival, his father died quite suddenly. Gabriel reached out to IOM asking for help to return home for his father’s funeral. “I am the oldest child. It is my responsibility to take care of my family,” he said.
