We spent some time yesterday pulling entries for a few national awards competitions. One of the categories is “Photographer of the Year.” If you’re familiar with our magazine, you know that we have a lot of talented men and women to choose from. This year, one of the photographers we’ll be nominating is Adam Schallau. It’s because of photographs like this, which was made near Lipan Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. “What you don’t see is the lightning that was all around me,” Adam says. “While the camera was making 30-second exposures, I was taking shelter under an overhanging boulder — partly because of the rain, and partly out of fear.”
