lordloweSneak peek: To honour a press request, I needed to get on and scan the Isles of Scilly plates. It's not quite time to go into more depth yet but I thought you might like to see this 'Mission Extra' of St. Mary's lifeboat station.
There's been a lifeboat in service at St. Mary's since 1837 — around two years older than the medium of photography and fourteen years older than #wetplatecollodion! I couldn't resist making this plate, trying to include as many details as possible:
You see the boathouse, of course. The unique slipway launching boarding boat is tied off outside. The other D-Class boarding boat is poking out behind the boathouse a little further back. In the middle distance, the awesome Severn Class lifeboat lies afloat on a mooring buoy primed to fire up at a moment's notice. It's quite a special scene for a lifeboat and photography geek!
