ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Stesha Ross, Class 37. Working with some of the worlds best wig makers, Stesha Ross had a moment of realization: Suddenly, she discovered a passion for hair cutting. Her path led her to ARROJO Cosmetology and she has not looked back. We caught up with Stesha to get the scoop. . .
Stesha, how did you become interested in the beauty industry?

Unlike most children, I loved getting a haircut, hearing the crunch as the scissors cut my hair, and then seeing how the process changed my appearance. Later, during my freshmen year in college, I really fell in love with the creativity of hairstyling. As a theatre major, I started designing the hair for a number of theatre performances and dance shows. I enjoyed collaborating with the university costume designers and directors. It also opened a whole new world to me, the world of wig making. After college, it was my privilege to work with and learn from some of the best wig designers in the business. I created wigs at theatre and opera companies such as Santa Fe Opera, Dallas Opera, and Tom Watson’s Studio in NYC.

Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?

I had been thinking about going back to school. Then one night before a technical rehearsal an actress asked me to cut her hair. I was taken aback, but I cut her hair nonetheless. I had no formal training. I was really nervous, but cutting her hair was such a thrill. It was certainly not a good haircut by any means, but after that night, I made a promise to myself to go back to school and learn how to cut hair. After touring ARROJO Cosmetology School, I immediately felt it was where I was supposed to be. It is an exceptional facility with a professional atmosphere unmatched in NYC.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?

The people I met, teachers, classmates, stylists and colorists completely changed my life. They have provided volumes of information, support and inspiration.

What is your favorite skill/specialization?

My favorite part about hair is cutting and styling. It is such a wonderful skill to be able to help someone look his or her best. #arrojo #arrojoalumni
