spadeandtrowelHere in southern Australia it's time to plant garlic... I have saved a number of the best bulbs from last years harvest and I can tell they are ready to plant because the bulblets are beginning to swell... look carefully and you will see a small shoot beginning to form at the crown of each corm... select the best outer corms for planting... the remainder can be used in the kitchen... don't break up the bulbs until you've prepared your beds and are ready to plant... these bulblets or corms are planted in prepared beds and will not be harvested until late spring / early summer... it's a great food plant to grow and is reasonably undemanding #homegrown #gardening #gardentips #organicfood #growwhatyoueat #garlic #mygarden #veggiegarden #vegetablegarden #fresh #growyourownfood #allium #organicgardening #epicgardening #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustraliamag #gardeningaustralia #urbanagriculture #urbangardenersrepublic #geelong
- triokidSuper cool!
- kt_molefaceCan I just plant some I buy from the supermarket? Sounds like a great idea to get some in the ground.
- spadeandtrowel@kt_moleface ... Hi ... purchase from a supermarket can be problematic... imported garlic is sprayed with a chemical that prevents it from shooting ... when you plant it the bulblets won't shoot... I recommend you find a fruit shop or farmers market that is selling locally grown (within your climate zone) then you will be assured of a successful sowing 🌱🌱🌱good luck
