- derickparfanYour wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.
Psalm 128:3-4 ESV
This is a reminder how great an impact my life has on my family. As I live a life under the fear of the Lord, following Jesus and filled by the Spirit, God has promised blessings not just for me. Blessings overflow even to my wife and my children. As head of the family, a father's spiritual well-being affects that of his family - for good if he is in relationship with God and for bad if he is not. This promise (and warning) is one of the arsenal God has given me to fight against remaining sins in my life. No sin is a private matter. It doesn't just harm my soul but also that of my wife and my children. I must fight then not just for the sake of my own soul but for the sake of my family. This incentive motivates me to pursue holiness. As I pursue God myself, I bring my family with me.
So I pray, Father, that you will help me fight against remaining sins in my heart. That you will always remind me of the consequences of my sins to my wife and my children. As I walk with you, let my family follow my lead. Let your blessings flow to our home as we obey your will and follow Jesus. And I pray for all the husbands and father in our church. Let them be mindful of their spiritual leadership to their family. May we all lead with an example of devotion, holiness and integrity. I pray for all the unbelieving fathers of our members and those we are trying to reach with the gospel. May you bring them to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus, and lead their whole family in faith and discipleship. Amen.
