I suffer from complicated, chronic grief, so I recently attended a workshop on Resiliency and Grief lead by V. Ophelia Rigault @beyondbodylove . There we learned that grief is the internal experience of loss; the thoughts and feelings about a loss that you experience within yourself. It isn't necessarily always the loss of a loved one and, "You don't always have to hold yourself together. Some days, it's enough to just focus on breathing." I find myself doing that a lot.

I've heard it said that grief does not change you, that it reveals you, and that's true, it does reveal you, but we are also forever altered by it too. The journey back to joy can be a long one, but it IS POSSIBLE, especially if you can look for and recognize the beauty in the little things, every day.  We can manage grief by therapy, journaling, eating well, exercising, reconnecting with nature, getting enough rest, seeking comfort in rituals, avoiding major changes in residence, jobs or marital status, seeking solace in our faith community, and allowing ourselves time to feel what we feel. .
