THE PAINTING SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM

The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona

Davis Lisboa, "Boîte-en-valise #3", 2017, oil on canvas, 15.7 x 15.7 x 1.57 in (40 x 40 x 3.5 cm)

What/who inspired the work?
Conceptually, I have been inspired by the work of the French artist Marcel Duchamp, entitled "Boîte-en-valise" (1936-1941). Formally, I have been inspired by Gerhard Richter's out-of-focus paintings.

What do you hope its viewers will think?
First, I would like the viewers to know that I founded a cultural entity, The Davis Museum (http://www.davismuseum.com). This museum of contemporary art has several sections and one of them is "The Paintings Section From Davis Museum". This section is divided into two genres, portraits and still lifes. The series of still lifes is about three works that have been important within the History of Art: "artists who had created their own museums". These works were the "Boîte-en-valise" by Marcel Duchamp; The "Galerie légitime" by Robert Filliou and the "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles" by Marcel Broodthaers.

Why did you choose the medium, color?
I have chosen the oil on canvas because it is a sophisticated and durable medium, that allows a great range of shades. I chose the blue because it is the color of the Davis Museum.
