elissacandeWhen Christofer was 5 and we went to Brasil, we told him he would call my grandma "Bisa" (great-grandmother in Portuguese). But he was so used to referring to adults by Mr. or Mrs. in front of their name, that on his own initiative he started calling her "Miss Bisa." It wasn't until years later we found out why and all that time Chris thought her name was actually Bisa. 🙂 I'm so glad Chris will have memories of her and only wish the same for Zachary. But the Lord was gracious to allow me to go when we did and I'll forever cherish the photos I have of my grandmother with Z. Through these photos I'll remind my sons of the example my grandmother left for us--of love, of kindness, and of courage. She was with us for over 99 and a half years. That's longer than most families get and still not enough time for us. My cousin posted a quote that when people leave they leave a little piece in us and take a little bit of us with them. I know my entire family will say this of Vó Polda. May we take the piece of her that's within all of us and do something good with it in this world. May her example of life be ingrained into each of our children and for generations to come. What a life. What a legacy. Will miss you so much, Vozinha.
