STRUCK ARTESIAN WELL

The only artesian well that we know of in Phelps County was struck a few weeks ago when Rowe Fort, in drilling a well for George Prewett, at what was known as Duncanville, one half mile south of Arlington on Highway 66, struck water at a depth of 55 feet that rose to a height of eight feet above the surface of the ground. It is a continuous flow. Mr. Prewett has put a cap on top of his well with a pipe attached so as to control the flow.

An artesian well in this section is so unusual that many tourists stop to look at the well and partake of the refreshing nectar that continually flows from the bowels of the earth.
Transcribed by Laura (Abernathy) Huffman for Population 91.
