annamcnuffAt last we emerge from the challenging forest ride and onto the shores of the Lago del Desierto. We’re rather disappointed to glimpse a boat pulling away from the dock, but both conclude that there will of course be another one shortly. It’s starting to rain again now, and the wind is really starting to whip up, so we move along to the passport control shack, and set about getting our passports stamped.
As we are stamped into Argentina for the 7th time on this trip, I casually enquire when the next boat leaves.
'5.30pm’ says the border guard, smiling.
I look at my watch, which reads 11.30 am. Bugger! There is nothing for it but to spend the next 6 hours huddled in the open-fronted shed on the lakeshore. Faye gets into her sleeping bag and takes a nap on the cold concrete floor. I pull on all my clothes and decide to barricade myself into a quad-bike trailer (in a bid to keep the wind and rain out). It is freezing and over the course of the afternoon we both leap up every now and then get some blood back into our toes, and will with all our might for the boat to arrive soon.
