- maerykatherineDay 10 of #the100dayproject. #100daysofLuke #horse #trailride Woke up with a headache that progressed to eye-squinting pain levels. Riding Luke has cured such things in the past so even though it was horrendously windy out, a ‘perfect storm’ for flipped out horse, I decided to give my cure a try. We got down the dirt road, across the street to the park where we took a right down a narrow trail. We were doing okay, even though Luke was weaving from side to side, looking for something to get upset about. He found it (whatever IT was) as we approached the woods. He flipped around and started prancing back in the direction we’d come, going sideways and hopping in place when I tried to redirect him. I’m old and out on a trail alone — not going to duke this out with someone who outweighs me by 1100 pounds. I did make him walk farther down towards the trailhead, do circles on the way back, and made him head down another trail for several yards before heading for home. This re-desensitizing thing will take time. I still have my headache but at least I can see that Luke is well enough to put up a stink.
