With Spring well underway, a cavalcade of wildflowers have finally bloom along the old backdunes of Bodega Head. Among them, our endemic Narrowleaf Queen Poppy (Hesperomecon linearis) gilds the dunesides in shimmering hues of gold! Considered - but rejected - for rare plant ranking by the CNPS, this enigmatic poppy is prized for its beautiful alternating color morph. Bearing an uncanny resemblance to gaudy circus tents, it's no surprise naturalists 'round these parts call it the "Carnival" Poppy! 🎡 #CAnative
