This is the grave of a Roman teenager in central London. Her bones were found in 1995 as they dug the foundations of the Swiss Re building (gherkin to mortals). She was aged between 13-17, and died around 300-450AD. She was reburied in 2007, in keeping with Roman traditions of the time, and a local vicar recited a service in Latin for her. So here she is now, buried 1500 years at the foot of a futuristic skyscraper. The inscription reads: To the spirits of the dead, the unknown young girl from Roman London lies buried here. #london #history #londonhistory #romanlondon
