Read this book. I urge you. And next time someone tells you that women are too angry, or that women shouldn't complain so much because things are better now, you will tell them about the gender war that is going on for decades. Centuries. You will tell them about the women that have their vaginas mutilated in Egypt and Gambia, the women who were forced to work in laundries managed by Catholic nuns in Ireland, the women who were killed in Argentina after their babies were born and the women that are fighting to find those babies. You will tell them about "honour killings" in Jordan and Pakistan and about women who are marginalised in Saudi Arabia because they don't have a male guardian. You will tell them about women that are raped because they "dare" to be in a public space, about young girls forced to marry men old enough to be their fathers and about women in Bosnia that are sex slaves. You will tell them about how women in the UK still earn less than men. Sue Lloyd-Roberts, a woman I aspire to be, left us too soon (shortly after writing this book), but this book and all her investigative films are a great legacy. Thank you, Sue.
