marathongoddess4 years ago today, I crossed the line of my 52nd marathon in 52 weeks at the LA Marathon. 1,362.4 miles of fighting pancreatic cancer. Since then, I've run 27 more marathons, came close to qualifying for Boston again, got married and became a Grandmommy. When I crossed that finish line we were at nearly $200K raised for pancreatic research and now we are over 400,000. Life is a wild ride and I am grateful for all that we've achieved and the people we've helped. I've been trying to write a book about it for years, I'm not going to lie, It's been a struggle,(harder than the marathons) but I am happy to announce, I have an amazing writing partner, John Hanc. He is an experienced writer, journalist and educator. His fourteen books include the award-winning memoirs The Coolest Race on Earth, about my experience running the Antarctica Marathon; Not Dead Yet, the story of Type 1 diabetic bike racer Phil Southerland; and The Ultra Mindset: An Endurance Champion’s 8 Core Principles for Success in Business, Sports and Life , with ultradistance runner and adventure racer Travis Macy. John has also run 29 marathons. He's coming to LA to run with me. I also signed with the perfect literary agent. You may have heard John's famous quote: "I've learned that finishing a marathon isn't just an athletic achievement. It's a state of mind; a state of mind that says anything is possible." With John on board I truly believe we've got a NYT best seller on our hands. On Sunday we begin a whole new journey from the Stadium to the Sea and beyond. We will dig deep to find that spirit inside of us which motivates us to find a way to keep going, no matter what. Have an inspired run everyone! Happy St. Patty's Day. We Got This. xo
