An article I wrote for @nameberry on name regret from a new angle is up! I'd love to know your thoughts on my ideas, and any experiences you have with either not liking the #name your parents gave you or with your kids not liking their #names. Direct link posted on the blog! {link in bio}

  • m_bernadette_gI enjoyed this post!
  • amandadhayesCool article! I'm one who absolutely hates my name. I cringe when people call me by name. It's a too-common name with no story or reason except that "it sounded nice" 🙄 Unfortunately the nickname "Mandy" is even worse. So with our own kids we try to choose meaningful names, tell the stories often, and make sure they have nickname or middle name options. Luckily so far all our kids like their names!
  • frappuccinomomLol. I HATED my name growing up. Geralyn (nick name Jera "like Sarah with a J") - I was named after my dad, Gerald, and grandma, Geraldine. I even wrote up a petition to change it in 4th grade and had all my friends sign it. Lol. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate both its uniqueness and the tribute to my family members.
  • sanctanominaOh @amandadhayes I love your name! It's got such a great meaning -- "lovable" -- and I think Mandy is one of the sweetest nicknames! So sorry it makes you cringe!
  • sanctanominaOhmygosh @frappuccinomom I love that you wrote up a petition! 😂 I also love Jera -- what a cool nickname!
  • amysalisbI hated my name as a child because my parents had let my 3 year old (at the time) sister pick it and it made me so upset that my bossy older sister had gotten to pick my name. But now I have grown to love it
  • amandadhayes@sanctanomina I think Mandy may be ruined because the slutty/ditzy Amandas in high school all went by Mandy 😳😂 I've told my husband if he dies before me I'm joining a convent and when I do I'll be able to change my name finally 😉
  • sanctanomina@amysalisb I've heard that from other people too! So glad you like it now!
  • sanctanominaOhmygosh @amandadhayes you're hilarious! If it helps, I know a Mary Angeline who goes by Mandy, loooooove that! (And Mary Angeline would be a perfect religious name 😉)
  • sanctanominaAlso, isn't it so bad when negative associations ruin a name?? @amandadhayes
  • noelletobrienI had the hardest time with my name growing up!! Who names their daughter "Noelle" when she's born in August 😂 well my parents did ha! And they didn't even really pick my name, they were in the peace corps and all the volunteers put suggestions in a hat and they pulled two randomly and got Noelle Christyna. And I was and still am called "Nicole" by accident from so many people. Oh well lol
  • noelletobrien...And now we have to come up with a name for our 5th baby due in October. Naming is so stressful!
  • sanctanominaAhhh @noelletobrien what a gorgeous name you have!! And such an interesting name story! (If you need help naming your little one I'd love to help 😉 See the "baby name consultant" tab on the blog if you're interested! If not, no worries!)
  • noelletobrien@sanctanomina we may very well need the help in a couple of months when the name conversations start getting serious!
