By lamp, this verse may mean that the eye is a metaphorical window by which light enters the body. Alternatively the lamp might not be meant as a source of light, but rather as a guide through darkness, just as the eye is a guide through life.

  • tsage25This is actually the same verse in King James version: The light of the body is the eye: "if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light."
  • tsage25As you know, throughout history the term "single eye" has been a clear cut reference to the third eye. So, in a sense, we are being instructed through this verse to see through/cleanse our third eye so our bodies (WHOLE body; meaning spirit-included). That's how I interpret it!
