    Pi appears in contexts that have nothing to do with circles. For example in a theorem proven by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler: The sum of 1/1 plus 1/4 plus 1/9 plus 1/16 plus 1/25 etc. - where the denominators are all perfect squares - is equal to Pi squared over 6.
