Donald (occasionally Donold) W. Stulp, born 21 March 1915 in Nebraska, enlisted in the Marines following Pearl Harbor. He completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego with Plt 1053, and due to his older age was recommended for retention as a drill instructor there, which he declined. A baker for the Omar Bakery in Omaha, he was made a baker instead and served with the 5th Marine Division, landing on Iwo Jima where he had the minor distinction of leading the team that baked the first bread on the island post-invasion. After the war he returned to the US and moved to Illinois where he (re)married and opened a bakery of his own. He was active in the Shriners International, flew private planes, and lived in Illinois until his death in 1999. #history #marines #ww2 #WWII #worldwar2 #worldwarII #war #military #army #usarmy #photoshop #digitalart #colorization #colourise #photograph #photography #portrait #iwojima #pearlharbor #omaha #soldier
